How Celebrex Works:

Celecoxib or Celebrex is a COX-2 specific inhibitor. Cyclo oxygenase compounds are found throughout the body - for example, in the nervous system and stomach. COX-2 is a type of cyclo oxygenase that produces prostaglandins that cause pain and inflammation. COX-1 is a type of cyclo oxygenase that is found in the stomach that helps protect the stomach lining. Thus, being specific for COX-2, Celecoxib or Celebrex reduces pain and inflammation with little stomach irritation.

Celebrex Precautions:

People who have a sensitivity to other anti inflammatory drugs may be able to tolerate Celecoxib or Celebrex, however they should use it with caution. Any of the following may be reason to choose a different drug. Inform your doctor before starting therapy.

  • Allergic to celecoxib
  • Allergic to sulfa drugs
  • Asthma, urticaria, or allergic type reactions with aspirin or other NSAIDs
  • Third trimester of pregnancy
